October 31, 2011 – INFORMS records with sorrow the passing on October 29th of Dr. Seth Bonder after a long illness. Dr. Bonder was a longtime friend of INFORMS and its predecessor society, the Operations Research Society of America, which he served as its president. Dr. Bonder not only endowed two INFORMS scholarships that bear his name; he also took a strong, encouraging interest in the work of the scholarship recipients who came to his attention because of their excellence. His work in national defense and telemedicine made him a much sought after consultant by government and private industry alike. INFORMS, its board, administration, and members, mourn his loss.

Both of these new scholarships were created in 2002 to honor the work and commitment of Seth Bonder. Qualified applicants are strongly encouraged to apply. More information about deadlines and the specific requirements of each scholarship can be found by following the appropriate link below.

The two Bonder scholarships are:

Seth Bonder Logo The Seth Bonder Foundation and INFORMS approved an opportunity for all Bonder Scholars. In an effort to continue Dr. Bonder's legacy the Foundation is dedicated to supporting all of the Bonder Scholars today and into the future. This opportunity is designed to provide all eligible Bonder Scholars to apply for a research grant to assist with their research and travel expenses associated with the INFORMS conference at which the Bonder Scholar will make a presentation related to their operations engineering research.

In 2014 research grant funds were increased from five (5) $2,000 grants to five (5) $4,000 stipend available once every two years. Grants are distributed to Bonder Scholars randomly selected following a simple lottery.
